Blue

April 23, 2011 under ART

Let’s enjoy on Easter Eve the paintings of two artists - Paul Klee and Wasilii Kandinsky, who shared a common desire to express spiritual truths through their art. They both were members of a group called The Blue Rider and their work promoted individual expression. The name is derived from Franz Marc’s enthusiasm for horses and Kandinsky’s love of riders, combined with both love of the colour blue. Blue was the color of spirituality for Kandinsky and they just like me believe in the spiritual and symbolic associations of colour and in the intuitive approach to art.

The Sofia Paper Art Fest is a unique international project that will offer the public varying distinctive works of art, chosen for their ability to maintain a smooth dialogue with nature, leading to the idea for a new eco-vision of fine arts and design. Artists of international repute as well as domestic will display a diversity of exterior and interior paper artworks, distinguished by their high social relevance. These works will highlight the use of green technologies and materials while addressing current issues related to the planet’s biological health recovery. Ideologically, The Sofia Paper Art Fest focuses not only on demonstrating the destructive influence of humans on the environment as has been the case in much recent art, but also the artistic or creative spirit and ingenious approach to the resolution of these effects.

Norman Foster’s sophisticated high-tech contemporary structures

April 19, 2011 under ART

How Much Does Your Building Weigh, Mr. Foster?

The film traces the rise of one of the world’s premier architects, Norman Foster and his unending quest to improve the quality of life through design. Portrayed are Foster’s origins and how his dreams and influences inspired the design of emblematic projects such as the largest building in the world Beijing Airport, the Reichstag, the Hearst Building in New York and works such as the tallest bridge ever in Millau France. In the very near future, the majority of mankind will abandon the countryside and live entirely in cities. Foster offers some striking solutions to the problems that this historic event will create.

Slow Art Day 2011

April 16, 2011 under ART

Today is the International Slow Art Day! Let’s experience the art of looking at art slowly!

Slow Art Day 2010 – Saturday, April 17 – was the first truly global Slow Art Day and it featured volunteers hosting slow viewing sessions at 50+ museums, galleries and churches around the world (every continent except Antarctica). It was a big success – and all powered by volunteer effort without any funding or official support.

Slow Art Day 2011 kicked off in December 2010 when the scientists at McMurdo Station in Antarctica hosted the first Slow Art Day of the season. On Saturday, April 16, 2011, 80+ more sites will follow the Antarctic kickoff to host Slow Art Day on every other continent. Over 90 volunteers – including a global team – are making Slow Art Day 2011 possible.

It’s a very simple process. Volunteer hosts invite people to come to a local museum and view a small number of works of art for 5 to 10 minutes each. Then everyone meets for lunch at a nearby cafe to talk about their experience. And all this happens the same day around the world.

I’m gonna spend the afternoon at Sofia Slow Art Day – Credo Bonum Gallery http://credo-gallery.bg/

But why not enjoy the Slowly Art looking day with one of my favorite pieces of  Miro online too:

Joan Miro – The Hunter, Catalan Landscape

Happy Slow Art Day!

Contemporary Belgian Art in Sofia City Art Gallery

April 12, 2011 under ART

ABC. Contemporary Belgian Art
Curators: Dominique Païni and Pascale Pronnier

12 April 2011 – 15 May 2011
opening 12 April, Tuesday, 6 pm

ABC. Contemporary Belgian Art is an exhibition that does not claim to be a comprehensive portrayal of the diversity of the contemporary art scene in Belgium. It focuses on video and photography. These are areas in which Belgium has been excelling over the last twenty years. The exhibition presents key artists from major Belgian cities (Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent, Liège) who have influenced the development of contemporary European art. It is an illustration of the curatorial idea that at first sight incompatible trends coexist in Belgium – such as minimalism and conceptualism, parallel with a playful, post-Dadaist art with a lively sense of humour. The exhibition comes to Sofia after being shown at Le Fresnoy – National Studio of Contemporary Arts.

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue.
